Why reintroduce? Through clinical experience in treating patients with chronic pain, we have frequently seen that there are coexisting intolerances to routinely eaten foods. By eliminating these foods we can help control pain, while promoting healthy weight loss and physical well being.
Food sensitivity reactions are far more subtle than allergic reactions and can be more difficult to pinpoint. To determine the presence of foods sensitivities, without lab testing, we first remove possible offending foods in order to ease the burden on the body and allow the immune system to begin to balance itself. We then carefully and methodically reintroduce food groups with mindfulness and guidance, looking for a variety of reactions. This happens during days 11-35 of the Pain Elimination Program.
Days 11-35 are the days that you observe what specific foods elicit a reaction. In the PEP workbook you’ll find the exact schedule to follow regarding what days to add in possible offending foods and when to revert back to the CLEAR foods list. To summarize the list, a single offending food will be added in, followed by a day or two of only CLEAR foods. Each day you will enter the amount of the offending food you consumed, noting any reactions/observations, and pain areas experienced. Going through this process of elimination/reintroduction is truly personalized nutrition and will help to empower yourself with the knowledge of discovering what you can eat for your best life!
Once you’ve gone through the re-introduction phase, day 36 will be to personalize your list, which you keep for life! In the PEP workbook you will find a Personalized Master Food List, allowing you to add foods to which you did not experience a reaction during the reintroduction. You should mostly eat from this list to keep your pain in check; however, it does not mean you can never eat other foods again. Remember though, knowledge is power and you now are armed with the knowledge of how foods can make you feel.
This journey is one that will help you take control and navigate your way through pain. We understand it can be a challenge to just follow a map when it comes to changing decades of set habits so we recommend utilizing a guide. A guide will not only help you set your desired goals, but help you on the path of achieving them by integrating your mental, emotional, and physical needs.
Think about taking a trip to an unfamiliar country where you only have a map to get to a specific destination. You could probably find your way, but what if you had an expert guiding and leading you, helping you through unexpected challenges, setbacks and struggles. We can help be that guide, providing individualized support from start to finish, holding the accountability needed for optimal success and truly creating added value and greater success.
